Yes, I know, one day. But we are super cramped for time. We will be driving from San Francisco to LA via Route 1. We have a 1 night stopover somewhere along the way. We are also traveling with 4 kids. Not so great planning put us in the area the same time as the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance car show. So, hotels are hard to come by and way out of our budget in the Monterey area. What are the "must see" stopping points along the way. Our kids will want to spend time in Santa Cruz at the boardwalk. What is a reasonable amount of travel time from Big Sur to LA? Is this part of Route 1 worth the drive? Where are other suggestions for a hotel stop along the way. I am thinking we would leave SF around 9/10am via Route 1. I was looking at Salinas but it looks like its tied into the car show. Is there something further south that would have easy access to begin the next day from Big Sur to LA? @Flower - From Santa Cruz to Big Sur nearly all of hotels are requiring 4 nights stay because of the car show. The ones that are not are charging about $400/night. We will be leaving SF in the morning to drive towards LA. One "must stop" that the kids have determined is Santa Cruz (probably lunch & a few hours for rides/beach). From there we can stay anywhere along the coast but because of the car show I am having a really hard time finding anything. Hoping someone local or who has been there might know of an option....
