Resolved Question: Why is there so much violence in my school?

I'm a 7th grader, in middle school. 6th grade was at my elementary school, the students were more educated, courteous, and were not very violent. Now, in a new school, there's violence about every week or so. I mean, there will be fighting- punching, yelling, etc. and everyone wants to see it! They will chase the people fighting (the school supervisors are chasing them then everyone starts to run but still fighting) and its just horrible… one of my friends got in a fight because someone called him racial slurs. I've witnessed this about 5-8 times, but after lunch people are always gossiping- "did you see the fight at lunch?! ___ and ____ were fighting!" I live in Salinas, CA, a gang-struck community. I hate my school, I'm afraid I'll get beat up or something… people are so rude at my school, also. My school is located in a upper-middle class neighborhood, not in the ghetto, by the way. But some people from the "ghetto" or more violent part of my city come to my school and stir up trouble. How can I help stop this or get away from it?
